Mackenzie man warned against ever hitting a woman again

Twenty-seven-year-old Royston Noble of Lot 3 Fair’s Rust, Mackenzie, was before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday to answer a charge of assaulting the mother of his child.

After the charge was read to Noble he pleaded guilty but offered an explanation. He reported that he and the mother of his child lived in the same building but in separate apartments. He said that last Sunday he confronted the woman about her sleeping out the previous night and not informing him of the whereabouts of his child. According to the accused a heated argument ensued and the complainant first hit him several times before he eventually hit her in return with his bare hands.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Clair Grant told the court that according to the statement received Noble cuffed the woman several times and threatened to kill her while she was hanging out clothes on  the day in question.

After the defendant informed the court that he was unemployed at the time, the magistrate told him that should he ever hit a woman again the charges would not be as light. He was fined $10,000 with the alternative of one week’s imprisonment and he was also placed on a bond to keep the peace for six months.

He was advised to vent his frustrations by going to the gym or utilizing a punching bag.
