Meusa wins Emancipation DDL Topco Juice Chess Tourney

Wendell Meusa won his fourth chess title of the year in as many tournaments when he produced yet another sterling performance to capture the Emancipation Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) Topco Juice Chess Tourney, which was held over the weekend at Kei-Shar’s Sports Club.

Meusa played undefeated with one draw coming against Shiv Nandalall.

In the Meusa-Nandalall encounter, Nandalall clearly had the edge as he was up two pieces, but was unable to convert a win due to time pressure and had to settle for a draw.

Taffin Khan rebounded after suffering a first round loss to Irshad Mohamed to take the second position, with his only other loss coming against Meusa.

Third place went to veteran player Errol Tiwari, fourth was Irshad Mohamed, while Brian Thompson took the fifth spot.

In the junior category, Sham Khan played undefeated to capture the top position. His only resistance came from Khalid Gajraj and had to settle for a draw.

Saeed Ali took the second position, third went to newcomer Raan Motilall, fourth Mahendra Sahadeo while fifth was Crystal Khan.
