Digicel makes big donation to Regatta Speed Boat racer

Yesterday the company donated $100,000 to Bell at its Head Office for the April 4-5 meet.

The skill and experience of Bell has resulted in him having a remarkable 25 championship wins and 150 trophies in a 15-year career.

Bell will compete in the 75-90 hp and 200 hp categories and yesterday said he was prepared to defend his 2009 title at the upcoming races against tough competition.

His 90 hp boat fittingly named ‘Extreme Limits’ was pushed to the limit last year and tied for first place with Mark Fagundes at Lake Mainstay.

But Bell said he will be looking to leave the competition in his trail when he competes in the 75-90 hp category this year.

Meanwhile, his lightning fast, 200 hp ‘Quick Silver’ was the fastest thing in the waters of the Regatta last year when he won the 200 hp category. The boat also held its own against the more powerful 280 hp engines allowing Bell to beat the entire field at the last Summer Regatta.

Clarence Bell’s ‘Quick Sliver’ after winning at the 2009 Bartica Regatta

Speaking to Stabroek Sport yesterday Bell said he will be competing against the 280 hp Mercury engines this year with his 200 hp ‘Quick Silver’ and expressed confidence that he will once again be triumphant.

Shonnet Moore, Public Relations Manager for Digicel, after the presentation told Stabroek Sport “Digicel is pleased to once again support Clarence Bell in the Regatta Games. The Digicel – Bell partnership has already secured a number of wins in past events and they are definitely looking to come out on top again this year.”

About 12 racing events are planned for the Bartica Regatta and Bell said he was sure that his boats and his team will again be successful.

The three member team of Bell and his two mechanics (who happen to be his sons) will also participate in an upcoming event on May 1-2 at Splashmins Fun Park.
