Four players with previous experience on national U-19 team

Batsmen Herrell Greene and Anthony Adams and fast bowlers Andre Stoll and Keon Joseph, all members of last year’s national Under-19 team, were yesterday named by the junior selectors of the Guyana Cricket Board in the 14-man squad for next month’s tournament in St Lucia.

Dominque Ricky

Greene is one of three opening bastmen in the team. The others are national Under-15 player Brian Sattaur and Berbician Harrinarine Chattergoon.

Noticeable omissions from last year’s team are fast bowlers Seon Daniels and Rensford Beaton.

Beaton, though, is one of four players on stand-by for the July 8-31 tournament.

The three openers along with Dominque Ricky and Kwame Crosse will be expected to shoulder the brunt of the batting this year with support from Sherwin Mc Pherson and Joemal La Fleur. Much is expected of the talented opener Greene, who played only two matches last year before he suffered a groin injury which kept him out of cricket for approximately three months.

Ricky was impressive during the Inter-County tournament and is expected to anchor the team’s batting.

Harrinarine Chattergoon

Chattergoon, a former national Under-15 player and younger brother of West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon, is also expected to do well in his debut U-19 tournament.

Fast bowler Joseph, in his third year and left arm pacer Stoll, in his second, will spearhead the Guyana attack.

Left-arm spinner Anthony Adams, Amir Khan, who was one of the standby players last year and off spinner Sherwin Mc Pherson will take care of the spin department.

Alvin Johnson has been named manager and Hubern Evans coach.

The Guyana 14 man team is:- Amir Khan, Dominique Ricky, Ricardo Adams, Harrinarine Chattergoon,    Dexter Solomon, Brian Sattaur, Joemal Lafleur,    Anthony Adams, Herell Greene, Kwame Crosse, Keon Joseph, Andre Stoll, Raun Johnson and Sherwin McPherson.

The standby players are:- Shawn Perreira, Quincy Richarson, Lloydel Lewis and Rensford Beaton.

The players are requested to report to the Chetram Singh Centre of Excellence at the La Bonne Intention Ground at 5pm today.
