Radio communication set not stolen from police vehicle

Dear Editor,

The Guyana Police Force is refuting allegations made in the Kaieteur News of Wednesday, June 16, 2010, that a radio communication set has been stolen from a police vehicle attached to the Mahaicony Police Station, which was published in an article under the caption ‘Transmitting set stolen from police vehicle.’

The Force wishes to clarify that no radio communication set was ever installed in the motor vehicle in question. On June 2, 2010, it was reported that the amplified control panel which had been installed in the vehicle and which facilitates the use of the horn and siren was missing. An immediate investigation was launched; however, the equipment has not been recovered as yet.

The Guyana Police Force wishes to express its disappointment at the continuing publication of inaccurate and misleading information concerning police activities by the Kaieteur News which can only be construed as aimed at sullying the image of the Force.

The Police Force is once again urging that, in keeping with the ethics of professional journalism, the Kaieteur News seek to contact the police on related matters before publishing.

Yours faithfully,
Ivelaw Whittaker
