GDF gets its first Day Care Centre

The Guyana Defence Force has established its first Day Care Centre and the service is expected to  boost the proficiency of single mothers in particular as they will be assured of their children’s well-being while they are on duty.

The facility, officially named the Margaret Rose-Arthur Centre after the first female soldier to enlist in the GDF, will provide services to the children of serving members of the Force, a  release from the GDF said yesterday.

At a simple dedication ceremony, Chief of Staff Commodore Gary Best lauded the contributions of Ret’d Warrant Officer Margaret Rose–Arthur to the Force and the Women’s Army Corps.

He recognised her outstanding service and added that the decision to name the facility in her honour was quite fitting and deserving.

“Your contribution has been commendable and I can think of no other more worthy person,” he asserted.
Arthur, in brief remarks, accepted the honour and recollected that during her tenure many were hopeful for such a facility. She thanked the current administration for making the Day Care facility a reality and urged the soldiers to make full use of the facility.

Ret’d Warrant Officer Class II Margaret Rose-Arthur served the GDF from February 6, 1967 to February 15, 1992.
