Moleson Creek man charged with killing mother-in-law

At the Springlands Court yesterday, Magistrate Krishndat Persaud remanded a Moleson Creek labourer to prison when he appeared before him charged with murdering his mother-in-law. It is alleged that on November 30, Alston Henry, 26, called ‘Black Boy’ murdered Jennifer Thomas, 49 at her Moleson Creek, Corentyne home. He was not required to plead to the capital offence. Police Prosecutor Sergeant Michael Grant told the court that around 6:30 pm, Henry went to the woman’s home and reportedly slashed her throat with a knife.

He said too that Henry and his wife had a misunderstanding the previous day and she moved out of their home and went to stay with her mother. Reports are that just before the incident, the man’s wife left the home to purchase a phone card. When she returned she called out for her mother and got no response. She then went over to call an aunt and they then found her under the house with her throat slit.

They raised an alarm and the matter was reported to the police. During the investigations, the wife related to the police that she and her husband were having problems. The ranks immediately went to the man’s house and found it locked. The ranks were finally able to enter and found the man on a bed with wounds self-inflicted wounds. They questioned him and he reportedly confessed to murdering the woman. Henry, who was admitted as a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital, was discharged two days ago. He is to return to court on December 29.
