Dr Frank Anthony now patron of Guyana Softball League

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony has accepted an invitation to become the patron of the Guyana Softball League (GSL) according to a press release.

“In a recent meeting the sports minister informed the GSL of his decision to accept the invitation to be the patron of what is still a developing sport,” the release stated.

It added that the executives are excited about the prospects of developing the sport stating that the decision is expected to validate the sport and give it more stakeholder support.

Recent efforts of the (GSL) has led to a rise in the interest of the game and more persons are now involved, the release stated.

And, following the conclusion of the GT&T 10/10 tournament the GSL will stage an inter association tourney involving the 16 affiliates of the GSL. The GSL plans to stage a school tournament as well as develop the game in the outlying areas where softball cricket is hardly played. Plans are also on stream to resuscitate the game at county level stated the release. “The body would like to remind players and organisations that the Guyana Softball League is the national association and the sole authority on softball Cricket in Guyana and therefore responsible for all national teams and inter county teams as dictated by the by laws of its constitution,” stated the release.

“Clubs teams are therefore urged to register their team and players with their respective area committees in order to be eligible for selection on any national and inter county teams,” the release added.
