Pegasus Open serves off Friday

The Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel-sponsored Open lawn tennis tournament serves off this Friday at the hotel’s courts.

The tournament, which is being held to coincide with the hotel’s 47th anniversary celebrations, will see play in several divisions of the men’s women’s and junior boys and girls singles and doubles.

According to this year’s tournament coordinator Jeremy Miller, he is encouraging interested participants to collect their entry forms as early as possible from the respective coaches or clubs.

Miller said the tournament will be open for not only well established tennis players but also persons who want to play the sport just for fun.

“We thought that this year’s tournament should not only be for persons who would have practiced the sport and know to play it well but also for beginners,” said Miller.

The novice categories will cater for players who are newcomers to the sport.
“We have included these categories so that everyone could feel free to participate in this event. Also for the purpose of having persons compete with others on the same level,”  Miller added.

The likes of Anthony Downes, defending champion Phillip Squires, Sandeep Chand, Krystal Sukra and the Gentle sisters are expected to play in the competition.

Entrance fee is $1000 for the first category and $500 for each additional category.
The deadline for entry forms to be submitted is today at 6pm

President of the GTA Ramesh Seebaran said the hotel’s courts will be resurfaced. He said they were currently doing soil testing and other necessary works on the facility.
