Foo fashions unbeaten 151 in Trinidad

Guyana’s Jonathan Foo was in sparkling form striking an unbeaten 151 to lead F&E Diamond to an upset victory over First Citizens Clarke Road in their third round National League 50 overs clash at Kennedy Park in Diamond Village, Trinidad on Saturday.

Batting first, Clarke Road made 202 for nine off their 50 overs with another Guyanese and former Diamond player Rangana Latchana hitting 74. Sean Siloch made 28 and Shiva Ramberran 34. Bowling for Diamond, Evans Mahabir took 2/25, Shivan Ragoonanan 3/38 and Chad Persadie 2/33.

Clarke Road would have fancied their chances of winning but did not factor in the big-hitting Foo. The right-hander thrilled the Diamond fans with some awesome power-hitting and although wickets tumbled around him, he was able to take Diamond home at 204 for nine for their most famous win.

At the Oval, Queen’s Park continued their winning ways by defeating Esmeralda by 87 runs. Skipper Justin Guillen top scored with 41 to lead his team to 197 all out and Daron Cruickshank took 4/37 to bowl out Esmeralda for 110.

In the other Group A encounter, national all-rounder Navin Stewart reminded the selectors of his credentials with an aggressive unbeaten 70 to give Moosai Sports a four-wicket win over Aranguez. Chasing 189 for victory, Stewart led the way by striking five sixes and two fours, as the home team registered the win.

In Group B, leaders PowerGen maintained their 100 per cent record but endured some uncomfortable moments against Bamboo. Batting first PowerGen struggled to 154 all out with Jason Mohammed striking 69 and national captain Denesh Ramdin 35.

Left-arm unorthodox spinner Dave Mohammed then grabbed 4/32 to send the hosts tumbling to 109 all out and PowerGen escaped with the win. Merry Boys playing at Patna for the first time in over three years, gave the home fans something to celebrate, as Atiba Alert turned in a fine all round performance to lead them to victory over Comets.

Alert first scored 21 in Merry Boys score of 173 all out and then grabbed 4/16 in partnership with fellow pacer Marlon Richards 4/21 —to humble Comets for just 84 runs.
