Venezuela charges captain but boat, crew let go

Venezuela yesterday released a ship it had arrested in Guyana’s waters on Thursday and while the crew was also freed its captain was charged with violating the boundaries of a “security zone” thereby setting the stage for what is likely to be a prickly meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries in Trinidad tomorrow.

Contract signed with US firm for SWAT Unit

The Home Affairs Ministry yesterday signed a contract with the Director of The Emergence Group (TEG) from Washington for the provision of consultancy services for the setting up of a SWAT Unit for the Guyana Police Force (GPF), according to the Government Information Agency.

Close, but still no US fiscal deal

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – U.S. Senate leaders are continuing to negotiate on legislation to raise the nation’s borrowing authority and provide temporary government funding but a deal was not expected to be announced yesterday, Senate aides said.

Guyana, St Vincent in agri student exchange

A bilateral agreement between the governments of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) and Guyana has paved the way for five SVG students to commence several agricultural related programmes at the Guyana School of Agriculture, while a team from Guyana is attached to the Ministry of Agriculture on that island.
