GPF win ISAA C/ships

Commissioner of Police Leroy Brummel Friday night said that despite the Police Force winning the 2013 Inter-Services Annual Athletic Championships (ISAAC), the entire joint service was the winner.

Held at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary, the near week-long activity featured performances from some of the country’s most gifted athletes.

Olympian Winston George of the Guyana Police Force (GPC) ensured that his helped his team to run out winners over their rivals.

George’s efforts, along with other athletes such as national runner Alita Moore, saw the cops to the top of the points table with 639 points. The Olympian ran 10.0s in the men’s 100m, 20.5s in the 200m and 49.1s in the 400m.

Moore recorded 11.8s in the women’s 100m, 24.6s in the 200m and 59.2s in the 400m. The relay saw George clocking 10.4s in the 100m and 20.8s in the 200m while Moore clocked 12.5s in the 100m and 25.5s in the 200m.

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) played second fiddle to the policemen accumulating 543 points while the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) placed third with 103 points.

Four persons with 30 points each shared the champion female athlete award Natasha Alder, Moses, Alita Moore and Janella Jonas while Atkison on 24 points was the runner up. In the male category George with 30 points was adjudged the champion athlete with Cleveland Forde on 28 points the runner up.

At the presentation ceremony Brummel congratulated the athletes for their victory while Chief-Of-Staff of the GDF Mark Phillips and Assistant Commissioner of the GPC George Vyphius echoed the words of the police commissioner, thanking the athletes for their exhibition of the past few days.
