Botofago, Eagles record wins in football premier league qualifiers

Botofago and Eagles United recorded wins over Vasco FC and Net-Rockers respectively when the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) GFF National Premier League play-off qualifiers commenced at the Mackenzie Sports Club on Wednesday.

Botofago defeated Vasco by a 2-1 score line while Eagles United squeaked past Net-Rockers by a 1-0 margin. In the opening matchup between Botofago and Vasco, Tevin Thompson broke the early deadlock as he found the back of the net in the first minute for eventual winners.

Donovan Francis increase their lead, etching his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 13th minute. Jermaine Preston eventually pulled one back for Vasco compliments of a 16th minute conversion.

With scores remaining unchanged going into the second interval, Botofago suffered an unfortunate setback as Jamal Haynes was shown a red card after picking up his second bookable offence in the 57th minute.

Having to play 33 minutes plus added time with 10 men, Botofago held on to seal the victory as the score line remained the same. In the feature matchup of the night between Eagles and Net-Rockers, Kendolph Lewis separated the two sides with a first half conversion in the 33rd minute.

The action is slated to continue today at the same venue with another doubleheader. In the opening fixture at 18:00 hrs, Vasco FC will faceoff with Net-Rockers while Eagles United will battle Botofago FC in the feature affair at 20:00 hrs.

Winner of the tournament will earn the opportunity to represent the association in the GFF national league playoffs to advance four teams for the 2014/2015 league season.
