Badly burnt woman succumbs

A young mother who was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) about two weeks ago after she sustained fourth degree burns to her entire body, succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.

Polling stations list finalised

ST.GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC- The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the Caricom committee on cricket governance say they have ended a “productive” meeting where an agreement has been reached on “the way forward” for West Indies cricket.

The PPP’s narrative needs major revision

Important elements of the wider strategy that finally brought down the PPP were: internal subversion to discredit the regime; various forms of economic pressure which, contrary to PPP propaganda, at best led to economic stagnation; more electoral manipulation, this time in the form of the imposition of proportional representation which favoured the opposition forces and the resuscitation of the long concluded Guyana/Venezuela border dispute as a backstop in the event that the PPP was still able to prevail.

Brazil’s political turmoil

Any sense of euphoria experienced by President Dilma Rousseff and her Workers Party following her re-election as President of Brazil last year must now have vanished as large scale demonstrations broke out in protest against not simply sluggish economic growth, but what appear to be credible allegations of substantial corruption, associated with the state-owned oil company Petrobras, seemingly   beneficial to the Workers Party, prior to the elections.

UWI principal scoffs at ganja fears

(Jamaica Gleaner) Principal of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Professor Archibald McDonald, has moved to quell fears that the decriminalisation of marijuana will result in an increase in the number of emergency medical cases at hospitals in Jamaica.
