Autopsies for Grove mother, baby postponed

The autopsies on the bodies of the woman and her two-month-old baby found dead at their Grove, East Bank Demerara apartment on Saturday have been postponed until tomorrow.

According to the Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, the husband of the deceased Eulanca Charles was unable to be present for the post-mortem examination, which was as a result postponed.

Charles and her infant daughter were found dead at their Lot 407 Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, apartment on Saturday morning.

The house is divided into two apartments; one was occupied by Charles and her family, while a man and his girlfriend lived in the other. The couple had told Stabroek News that a pungent smell began emanating from the windows of Charles’ apartment some time ago. However, they did not pay any attention to it as they had assumed that it was spoiled meat.

After the odour worsened, they decided to call the police. The police broke the door to Charles’ apartment and found her and her daughter’s decomposing bodies in the bedroom.

Some neighbours had highlighted the fact that Charles’ husband left for the interior, where he works, almost around the same time that she went missing.

They suggested foul play, given that they would hear them arguing frequently.

However, fruit vendors whom Charles frequented had stated that the husband had left about a week or more before they noticed Charles was missing.
