Win little too late for Futsal team

Guyana’s Futsal team ended its Caribbean Football Union (CFU) championships on a positive note squeaking past Antigua and Barbuda 3-2 Sunday in their final group fixture in Havana, Cuba.

The win was a little too late for the team which was eliminated from the event following 2-5 and 3-4 defeats to Curacao and Trinidad and Tobago respectively in the earlier matches.

Sunday, the team rebounded with a 3-2 win to secure their only points of the event.

The squad which was under the guidance of Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Technical Director Claude Bolton consisted of Travis Bess, Konata Mannings, Eusi Phillips, Daniel Favourite, Solomon Austin, Jerome Richardson, Travis Grant, Daniel Wilson, Sherwin Skeete and Richard Reynolds.

Joseph (Bill) Wilson, Assistant Coach, Denzel Thompson, Goalkeeping coach and Mark Young, manager were the other officials.

Group winners Curacao and hosts Cuba will now faceoff in the championship match tomorrow while Trinidad and Tobago and Guadeloupe will lock horns in the third place playoff. Guyana last participated in the event in 2008, placing fourth in the group stage.
