Letter writers on city council are not genuine

Dear Editor,

Please refer to a letter in the Tuesday, March 1 edition of the Stabroek News captioned ‘Misuse of name.’ We should like to express sincere thanks to Dr Levius for coming forward and bringing clarity and exposing the campaign staged against the hard work of the Georgetown municipality.

We believed that this and many other letters in the press have been written by a disgruntled employee who has ganged up with a councillor and a particular political party. It is evident that the media are used to peddle statements to belittle and besmirch the image of the Georgetown City Council and discredit the ongoing works, which aim at restoring the beauty of the city.

Quite recently, we have observed a number of letters appearing in the print media under several pen names. In the case of one of them a check was made with a prominent member of the family and we were reliably informed that the family is a close knit one and the name appearing on the letter is not familiar to any member of that family.

It is quite unfortunate that the names of innocent citizens are being used to advance the sinister agenda of a few disgruntled people.

However, regardless of the challenges we face, the work to beautify and advance the interest of the city will continue; we will not be discouraged.

All along we had suspected that this was the work of an individual who had a problem with the council.

Yours faithfully,

Debra Lewis
