Cop on bail over cell phone theft

A police constable was yesterday granted $75,000 bail after she denied a charge that she stole a smartphone.

Donette Jupiter, 35, was brought before Magistrate Fabayo Azore in a Georgetown court, where the charge that was read to her stated that on August 12, in Georgetown, she stole a Samsung Galaxy phone, valued $129,000, a 32 GB memory card, valued $8,000, and a GTT SIM card, valued $3,000.

The articles, which had a total value of $140,000, were the property of Royden McPherson.

According to police prosecutor Stephen Telford, all the items mentioned in the charge were discovered and investigations into the matter are completed. As a result, he noted, the police are ready to proceed to trial.

Magistrate Azore subsequently adjourned the matter to today, when Jupiter is expected to collect statements and a trial date is to be set.

Jupiter was subsequently granted $75,000 bail.
