Venezuelan charged with $1M raw gold robbery

A Venezuelan national was brought before a city court yesterday to answer to a charge that he stole $1,000,000 worth of raw gold in an armed robbery.

It was alleged that Yuhil Alfredo Muivoz, 25, on August 27th, at Arau Landing, Wenamu River, Essequibo, while being armed with a gun, robbed Joshua DaSilva of 120 grammes of raw gold valued $1,000,000.

Muivoz, by way of an interpreter, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The accused, during the reading of the allegation, repeatedly uttered the word “no” and shook his head in disbelief. He denied committing the robbery, but told the court that he knew the perpetrator.

Given the serious nature of the crime, Muivoz was remanded to prison by Magistrate Leron Daly until September 8th, when he will appear before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
