Time trials at South Dakota at noon today

All roads will lead to the South Dakota Circuit tomorrow for the finale of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC).

In excess 150 competitors have already registered to bring the curtain down in this year’s edition of the four-leg fixture.

Speaking to Stabroek Sport yesterday, President of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC), Mahendra Boodhoo said that this leg has the largest gathering of Regional motor racing superstars in over two decades. He added that CMRC 2016 would see competitors from Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad, Cayman Islands, the USA and the UK along with the locals all vying for the overall crown.

He acknowledged that Guyana was in with a slim chance of being crowned champions.

“We never give up until the last race” Boodhoo said.

Boodhoo guaranteed that, “the boys will be putting up a fight”.

While the ‘Trinis’ lead the point standings, Peter Rae of the Reggae Racers from Jamaica boasted about dominating proceedings in a recent statement: “The RR’s will be tearing up South Dakota over the weekend both in the Gp4 4Wd and go 4 2Wd classes. Without a doubt Jamaica will be taking home the 4Wd championship whereas I am fighting to move from third place in the 2Wd class with some strong competition ahead! Norman will be exciting the fans on two wheels.”

Time trials starts at midday today at the circuit.

Team Trinidad leads the country championships with 1151 points. Barbados are on 504 followed by Jamaica on 465. Team Guyana has tallied 358 points while the Cayman Islands have racked up a paltry 60 points.

This year’s final leg line-up is nothing short of impressive, attracting drivers like Jamaica’s Doug Gore and Rae, Barbados’ Stuart and Mark Maloney and Trinidad and Tobago’s Franklin Boodram, Paul Vieira, Frankie Boodram along with Guyana’s ‘Big Three’ Kevin and Kristian Jeffrey and Mark Vieira.

Super bikers like 2016 MotoAmerica Superstock 600 Championship winner Bryce Prince, British super bike specialist, Mike Truelove, Stephen, Elliott and Matthew Vieira will also take centre stage.

Organizers are promising that this weekend’s event will have all the colour and pomp we have come to expect over the years with plenty of entertainment for the whole family. The circuit is in perfect condition and fans should expect supersonic times.

Thirty-nine races are carded for the day and the entrance fee to the circuit is $2,000 for adults and $1,000 for children.

See you there.
