Better Hope man succumbs after Le Ressouvenir accident

A Better Hope man, who was injured in an accident after his motorcycle was struck from behind along the Le Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara Railway Embankment Road on Monday night, has succumbed.

The deceased Motiram Deonarine, 58, and his wife, Bibi Deonarine, 56, of 65 Zohora Street, Better Hope, East Coast Deme-rara, were on their motorcycle journeying home when a car, which was allegedly speeding, ran into them.

Motiram succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital sometime on Tuesday.

An eyewitness, who did not want to be named, said Motiram was pitched off the motorcycle after the impact and he landed several feet away, while Bibi, who was the pillion rider, ended up on the car’s bonnet. She later landed on the road several feet away from her husband as the car came to a stop. She has since been discharged from the hospital.

The eyewitness told Stabroek News that he was the first to arrive at the scene and he administered CPR to Motiram. He noted that the now deceased man was unconscious before he administered CPR and when he regained consciousness he provided his name and contact information for his family.

According to the police, charges have not yet been laid against the driver of the car PLL 2194, who struck the couple off the bike and the Deonarine family is afraid that the lawmen are dragging their feet on the investigation.

The couple’s son, Ricky (only name given), told Stabroek News the police have not been in contact with him and he has not been given any definite answers on the progress of the investigation.

Ricky said he was told that police revisited the scene of the accident with the driver.

But ‘C’ Division Com-mander Marlon Chapman yesterday explained that investigation is still ongoing but the driver has been released on $100,000 station bail.

According to Ricky, his father sustained a fractured hip broken, ankle, instep and internal injuries.

He said that persons at the scene were heard alleging the driver was racing with another car. As a result of the speeding, skids marks were evident on the roadway.
