Everest, Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) and the Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) all recorded first round victories yesterday in the first round of the Georgetown Cricket Association/AYPCL Under-19 50-overs tournament.

At the Everest Cricket Club ground, Everest defeated GYCEA by 68 runs after posting 211 in 37.4 overs and bowling out the visitors for 143 in 34 overs.

Everest were led by Ushardeva Balgobin who clobbered a dozen fours and four sixes in his knock of 87.

Balgobin shared in a 92-run partnership for the third wicket with Ariel Tilku who made 37.

 Raynaldo Mohammed chipped in with 21 as left-arm seamer, P. Jadunauth, claimed 5-29.

In reply, C. Mohan top scored with 34 while C. Dowlataram snapped up 4-31 with Mohammed claiming 2-17 with his left-arm spin.

At Ogle, the umpires failed to turn up and other provisions had to be made  before GYO beat Bel Air Rubis by 26 runs.

GYO won the toss and took first strike, posting 85 in 21 overs before bowling out hosts, Bel Air for a disappointing 59 in 23 overs.

GYO’s batting was led by Yeudistir Persaud with a top score of 19 as well as Shay Narine with 12 but no other batsman looked to provide stability as Shankar Sahadeo snatched 5-20.

The bowlers took centre stage with Yeudistir Persaud, a regular behind the stumps taking 3-16 while his 11-year-old brother, Danesh snatched 2-16. Pradesh Balkishun (2-6) and Rohan Suknandan (3-9) were also  among the wickets.

Shivanand Gossain (15) and Ravindra Samaroo (14) were the only batsmen to reach double figures.

At Malteenoes, the lack of sight screen and groundsmen resulted in the match being reduced to 40-overs per side with Malteenoes beating Transport Sports Club 106 runs.

The hosts won the toss, batted and posted 214 in their allotted overs. T. Hicks top scored with 66,  Wayne Bollers  scored 46 and Marvin Permaul 30. J. Spooner, Adrian Hinds and A. Clarke took two wickets each.

In the chase, Hinds returned to play the lone hand with 24 as Chad Shivrattan bagged 4-49 and Bollers returned to take 3-15.
