MVP Semple leads President’s College to U18 title

President’s College, Marian Academy and the Bishops’ High were crowned Boys U18, Girls Division and U14 champions respectively when the National School Basketball Festival [NSBF] Regional Finals concluded on Friday.

Staged at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, East Coast Demerara unit President’s College beat Marian Academy 72-64 in the U18 final.

Richard Semple registered a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds, while Jushaun Bailey added 17 points and seven rebounds. Contributing 13 points was Jesse James.

For Marian Academy, Jether Harris bagged a monstrous double-double of 35 points and 16 rebounds. He was assisted by Tyrese James who scored 11 points and five rebounds, while Shamar Atwell added eight points and four assists.

In the awards section, Semple walked away with the Most Valuable Player [MVP] accolade, while Israel Yaw of Georgetown Technical Institute [GTI] was adjudged the Best Defensive Player.

In the girls division final, Marian Academy defeated Queen’s College 36-24. Kelliann Sauers recorded 11 points and eight rebounds in the win, while Aaliyah Singh and Angel Rajaram added eight and five points respectively.

For Queen’s College, Naomi Barkoye amassed 14 points and 20 rebounds while Luanna Mohan chipped in with four points and six rebounds.

In the individual section, Sauers of Marian Academy copped the MVP award while Barkoye of Queen’s College was adjudged the Best Defensive Player.

In the Boys U14 final,  Bishops’ High defeated St. Rose’s High 35-32. Jaden Howard recorded a double-double of 14 points and as many rebounds in the win, while Matthias Arrindell added nine points and eight rebounds.

For the loser, Carmelo Man-Son-Hing tallied 15 points and six rebounds, while Chris Perez added seven points and 12 rebounds. Howard of the defending champion was adjudged the division’s MVP and Best Defensive Player.
