Briton John rides to victory in Grenville Felix Memorial road race

Briton John bested a field of the nation’s best wheelsmen on Sunday to emerge winner of the sixth edition of the Grenville Felix Memorial road race which was staged in Berbice.

The United We Stand rider, soloed to victory in 2h:40m.37s for the grueling 60-mile event, which started in Canje, proceeded to Number 51 Village and returned to Canje for the finish.

He finished ahead of national road race champion and last year’s winner of the event, Jamaul John, who outsprinted the remnants of the peloton.

Linden’s Michael Anthony and Team Evolution’s Paul De Nobrega finished closely behind in third and fourth position respectively.

Ajay Gopilall, Guyana’s 2019 Junior Cycling Champion, finished in fifth position, while Kemuel Moses rode in sixth.

Apart from Gopilall, the other Berbicians among the top finishers were Romello Crawford, who rode in seventh, and Andrew Hicks, who came in eighth position with Balram Narine finishing in ninth. Marlon Williams of Team Evolution rounded out the top 10.

Note: Felix who passed away six years ago at the age of 96, was one of Guyana’s first engineers who worked with Bookers and the Guyana Sugar Corporation and in other parts of the world.
