Guyanese junior batting sensation Mavendra Dindyal has so far been one of the standout performers in the ongoing West Indies Under-15 tour of the United Kingdom.

Dindyal, in a rained out fixture against Northamptonshire Cricket Board Under-15, crafted a fine innings of 64, which came off 61 balls and included seven fours and two maximums.

Joshua Morris (95 not out) and Kamario Grant (45) were the other top run-scorers in that encounter and the West Indies youth side were on 248 – 6 from 44.2 overs when the weather interrupted.

Meanwhile, the contest between the West Indies and the England Cricket Board (ECB) Bunbury Festival XI saw the junior Caribbean side going down by 59 runs, with Dindyal once again featuring as one of the premier scorers.

The host, after being inserted to bat, posted 212 from their allotted 20 overs on the back of a match-winning knock from skipper James Coles (88) who got support from Nathan Fernandes (35) and Charlie Sharland (28).

Rashad Worrell (1-25) ended as the pick of the bowlers while Andrew Rambarran (1-41), Soloman Bascombe (1-41) and Devin Tyson (1-54) were the other bowlers to tick the wickets column for West Indies, who in turn reached 153-7 when their 20 overs expired.

Dindyal top-scored with 35 inclusive of four fours and a maximum while Jordon Johnson (28) and Worrell (21) were the other two batsmen to get into the twenties. Ben Kellaway grabbed 3-29 to end as the pick of the bowlers for the English side.

The two other Guyanese selected – Rampertab Ramnauth and Isia Thorne- did not feature in those two matches.

In the final encounter to date, the Caribbean side went down to ECB’s XI by 10 wickets at the Eastcote Cricket Club. West Indies batted first and made 121 for seven from 20 overs. Kamario Grant top-scored with an even 50 and was supported by Worrell (20) and Rambarran (16).

Dindyal failed to get off the mark while Ramnauth, who batted at number seven, could only muster one run. Will Gilderson (2-24) and Ressi Walker (2-19) spearheaded England’s attack after which Sharland (51) and Daniel Ibrahim (52) struck unbeaten fifties to carry their side to the 10-wicket win. Thorne, who featured in that match, had 0-13 from three overs.

West Indies are set to play North and Midlands Combined today.
