Melanie thumps Golden Stars in NAMILCO football

Melanie downed Golden Stars 3-1 when the East Coast Demerara leg of the NAMILCO U17 Football Championship continued yesterday.

Hosted at the Victoria Community Center ground, David Clarke handed Melanie the early initiative with a well-placed shot into the back of the net in the 29th minute.

The conversion proved to be the only noteworthy incident of the first half.

However, Golden Stars responded at the start of the second stanza through Fitzroy Hackett, scorer of a 47th minute effort.

Nonetheless, the response from Melanie came via two unanswered goals, with the go-ahead conversion occurring in the 60th minute after Seon Heywood raced onto a defensive error to lash his effort past the goalkeeper.

The result was then sealed 10 minutes onward compliments of an Emanuel Evans strike after latching onto a pass inside the area.

Also, Rising Strikers edged Mahaica 1-0. Elzendee King separated the two teams via a penalty kick conversion in the 29th minute.

In the East Bank Demerara section, Grove Hi-Tech edged Agricola 3-2.

Rasheed Evans, Orwin Hunte and Samuel Garnett scored in the 30th, 60th and 6th minute each for Grove Hi-Tech while  Brian Lambert netted a brace in the 37th and 58th minute for Agricola.

Also, Diamond United crushed Soesdyke 9-0.

Meanwhile, Samatta Point/Kaneville and Timehri battled to a 2-2.

For Samatta Point/Kaneville,

Dustin Ifill and Denzil Garrway netted in the 18th and 40th minute respectively.

For Timehri, Alvin Arrilall and Joel Williams scored in the 28th and 66th minute respectively. In the other result, Herstelling gained a walkover from Swa

On Saturday at the same venue, Samatta Point/Kaneville thumped Soesdyke 6-0.

Garraway tallied a hat-trick in the 36th, 40th and 59th minute. Kareem Richmond was the next best scorer with a double in the 32nd and 51st minute, whilst Ifill converted in the 65th In the second match, Timehri gained a  walkover from Friendship.

In the Berbice zone at the Esplanade Park on Saturday, Corriverton Links dismantled Hearts of Oak 9-1. Akeem Blades led the rout with a five goal haul in the 16th, 25th, 33rd, 60th and 77th minute.

Contributing a double was Lester Reynolds in the 44th and 79th minute, while Issano Fields and Mark Matthews added goals in the 60th and 77th minute respectively. For the losers, Devonte Tappin scored in the 86th minute.
