Investigators are yet to establish whether Saturday night’s shooting in Linden, which has left a man dead and his partner critically injured, is linked to an apparent gang war in the town, according to Divisional Commander (ag) Ramesh Ashram.

When contacted by Stabroek News yesterday afternoon, Ashram said that the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. He also noted that there is no eyewitness to the incident.

Eon Williams, called ‘OJ,’ was fatally shot around 8.30 pm Saturday in Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden.

Hospitalised:
Melita Antigua

His partner, Melita Antigua, sustained two gunshot wounds and remained hospitalised in a critical conditon up to yesterday afternoon.

Residents had previously told Stabroek News that on the Saturday night they witnessed a vehicle being followed by another and subsequently heard gunshots.

This led some to believe that the vehicle that Williams and Antigua were in was being trailed by another.

This newspaper understands that it is suspected that the shooting is linked to an ongoing gang war in the Linden area and Williams might have been targeted as he is related to reported gang leader and former police officer Teon Allen, called ‘Spoil Child.’

Earlier this month, the police had issued a wanted bulletin for Allen, who is wanted in relation to the attempted murder of two women in Linden.

In August, 2017, he was charged with harbouring wanted men Mark Royden Williams and Uree Varswyck, who had escaped from the Camp Street Prison on July 9th, 2017.

In January of the same year, Allen was among three men who were charged with the illegal possession of an AK-47 and matching ammunition.

They were taken into custody after the items were found by the police during a raid at a John Street, Campbellville house. Allen was also charged in relation to several other offences, including armed robbery.
