A murder convict will be returning to jail after he was given a three-year sentence yesterday for wounding a co-worker in an attack with a cutlass.

Paul Johnson, who previously spent 15 years in prison for murder, admitted to a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

He was sentenced by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in Georgetown after the charge was read to him. The charge stated that on September 20th, 2019, at D’Urban Backlands, Georgetown, he inflicted grievous bodily harm on Chandrika Vickram.

The unrepresented man did not waste the court’s time as he pleaded guilty immediately after the charge was read.

According to information presented by the Police Prosecutor, Sanj Singh, both men worked at a construction site at D’Urban Backlands, where they had a disagreement. Johnson subsequently left but later returned to the site with a cutlass, which he used to inflict harm to his co-worker.

It was reported that Vickram suffered chops to one of his elbows and profound lacerations to the right wrist. It was also mentioned that as a result of some of his injuries, his bones were visible.

The prosecutor also informed the court that Johnson was convicted of murder and he had served his time.

After listening to the facts, Magistrate Daly sentenced the man to three years in prison.
