Remaining suspects in murders of Corentyne fishers nabbed in Suriname

Two Corentyne men who were wanted in connection with the murders of four fishermen during a recent pirate attack have since been arrested in Suriname.

Sunday Stabroek was told by a police source that the arrest was made sometime on Thursday during a raid.

O’Brian Fraser, also known as “Shines”, 21, of Lot 66 Eversham Village, Corentyne and Anonth Boodrage, also known as “Andy”, 18, of Lot 97 Belvedere Village, Corentyne, are in in custody in Suriname, as lawmen over there have opened their own investigation.

According to a source in Suriname, the authorities there are in contact with their counterparts in Guyana. The source said that the men are expected to be charged in Suriname with an immigration offence then it is likely that they will be handed over to the Guyanese authorities. 

Three men, Narine Dhanraj also known as “Chu Chu Boy”, 30 a fisherman of Lot 75 Belvedere Village, Corentyne, Suresh Sundat, also known as “Buckman,” 22, a fisherman of Belvedere Squatting Area, and Lennox Grimmond, 37, of Cromarty Farm, Corentyne, have so far been charged with murdering Lamar Petrie, Kawal Kissoon, Vishnu Seeram and Marvin Tamasar during the course of piracy.  

Dhanraj and Sundat were jointly charged at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday, while Grimmond was charged on Friday at the Albion Magistrate’s Court. However, all three men will return to the Whim Magistrate Court on November 7th. 

On October 5th, 2019, the four Corentyne fishermen left home to head out to sea to ply their trade on their boat, SARA 1. However, one week after leaving home the men’s boat was found aback of Cromarty Village, Corentyne, while the bodies of Petrie, 20, of Lot 9 Miss Phoebe, Port Mourant and Kissoon, 36, of Lot 233 Letter Kenny, Corentyne, were discovered days apart along the Mahaicony and Abary foreshore.

Police have said two of the suspects confessed to investigators that they were part of a five-man crew that attacked and murdered the fishermen on the high seas. Based on the alleged confession, the men claimed that initially they had only intended to rob the four fishermen of their catch but after they put up a fight and they chopped them about their bodies then tied their hands and feet together and threw them overboard eight miles from the point of the attack.

Boat captain Vishnu Seeram, also known as “Kevin”, 20, of Port Mourant, Corentyne and Marvin Tamasar, also known as “Buddy”, 20, of Lot 305 Port Mourant, Corentyne are still missing and presumed dead.
