Chanderbir, Bovell tons highlight Beacon Café 50-over tournament

In the latest round of the West Demerara Cricket Association/ Beacon Café 50-over tournament over the weekend, centuries from Deoram Chanderbir and Floyd Bovell highlighted the round.

In the battle of Windsor Forest at Windsor Forest Ground , their ‘A’ team defeated their ‘B’ team by a massive 171-run margin. Windsor Forest A batted first, posting 272 in 49.1 overs while containing their ‘B’ side to 101 in 35 overs.

Leading the way for the ‘A’ team was Chanderbir who smashed nine sixes and two fours on his way to a top score of 101. Chanderbir was supported by Kishun Tracy with 51 and cameos from Avinash Ganesh (32), Yudhistir Parbhudin (23) and Deendyal Guyadeen (22).

Floyd Bovell

Rajiv Kadernauth and Mohanram Chatram both bagged three wickets but were expensive as they went for 57 and 58 runs respectively.

In reply, Muneshwar Balgobin tried valiantly to save his side from a certain defeat with a brisk 49 but only found support from Hemchand Bisnauth who scored 14. Maniram Ragnauth was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4-9 while Guyadeen and Abdullah Wazidali took two wickets each.

In the second match of the round, Bovell’s 114 led Christ Ambassadors to a 98-run win over La Grange at Joe Vieira Ground. Bovell’s ton consisted of eight fours and three sixes while Leon Andrews’ 45 saw Christ Ambassadors posting 322 in 37 overs. Jermin Ranroop returned 2-37 for La Grange.

In the chase, Chanderpaul Harrylall halted La Grange’s march after returning 4-10 while Andrews chipped in with 2-29.

Ranroop returned with bat in hand to blast four sixes and five fours on his way to 62 while G. Singh stroked six sixes and five fours on his way to a top score of 70.

In the final match of the round at Okoo Cricket Ground, Zeeburg Cricket Club marched to a seven-wicket win over McGill Super Stars.

McGill won the toss and opted to bat, posting 151 before being bowled out in 40 overs with Sudesh Persaud top scoring with 42, decorated with five boundaries. Persaud was supported by Keshram Seyhodan (24) and his son, Travis (21).

Bisram Thomas was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5-35 while Malcom Hubbard and Jamal Gomes picked up two wickets each.

In the chase, Hubbard’s unbeaten 48 steered his side over the line as they reached 152-3 in 29.5 overs. Hubbard’s innings featured three fours and two sixes. Earlier, Balbinder Shivpersaud (36) and Nick Mustapha (26) laid the foundation for the win.
