Mainstay Gold Stars seals spot in GFF Super 16 tourney

Mainstay Gold Stars sealed a spot in the GFF ‘Super 16’ Year-End Championships by defeating Charity Extreme 2-1 in the final of the Essequibo / Pomeroon Football Association (EPFA) Qualifiers on Sunday.

Played at the New Opportunity Corp Ground, Xavier Hernandez and Christopher Belfield scored in the 10th and 69th minute respectively.

For the losers, Stanley Holder netted in the 49th minute.

Meanwhile, Pegasus Hotel joined the growing list of sponsors to support the event, donating one million dollars at the official launch of the tournament.

The event which commences on December 15th at the Eve Leary ground, is set to conclude January 1 at the National Stadium, Providence. 

The winning team will receive $2,000,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place finishers will receive $1,000,000, $500,000 and $250,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.

The other competing teams are Elite League sides Den Amstel [defending champion], Fruta Conquerors, Guyana Defence Force [GDF], Guyana Police Force [GPF], Western Tigers, Milerock, Buxton United, Santos, Pele, Timehri Panthers [East Bank Demerara], Buxton Stars [East Coast Demerara], Rivers View [Bartica], Riddim Squad [Georgetown] and Eagles [West Demerara].

The remaining berth will be filled by the winner of the Berbice Playoff Qualifier.
