Over two and a half years after Maverick De Abreu was accused of assaulting popular Soca artiste Rodney ‘Benjai’ Le Blanc outside the Palm Court nightclub, he is expected to call his final witness when his trial resumes in the New Year.

De Abreu, 27, of Lot 66 Broad and Alexander Streets, Charlestown, is on trial before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. The charge against him states that on April 16th, 2017, at Palm Court, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Le Blanc. He has since been asked to lead his defence and is due on January 21st, 2020, to present his final witness to the court.

He is currently out on $50,000 bail pending the hearing and determination of the trial.

It was previously reported that LeBlanc, while standing outside of the nightclub compound, tapped on a vehicle that was reversing in his direction. As a result of this, De Abreu allegedly exited the car and asked the singer, “You think is Trinidad, you deh?” and pointed a gun in LeBlanc’s face. Not long after, LeBlanc was struck with an object, causing injuries to his face. The injured man was rushed to the Woodlands Hospital, where he underwent an emergency surgery and received over 15 stitches to his face.
