Kaneville teen found dead in trench after altercation

A Kaneville, East Bank Demerara teenager was yesterday morning discovered dead in a trench at Craig, hours after he was reportedly attacked by persons in his community.

The dead teen has been identified as Wayne Anthony George, 18.

Regional Commander Kurleigh Simon confirmed the discovery which was made around 7.40 am. He said that at the time there were injuries to George’s lips and behind his head.

Simon said an investigation has since been launched and while no arrest/s was made up to last evening, investigators are pursuing several leads.

He explained that information revealed that George was involved in a confrontation in his community on Monday evening. He was last seen alive by his mother around 22.30hrs when he left home on a bicycle, armed with a cutlass.

Emmette George, the dead teen’s mother yesterday told reporters that shortly after returning from work on Monday evening, she saw George who related to her that he had been attacked by a group of persons who allegedly threw bottles at him.

This newspaper was told that the teen reportedly had an old grievance with persons in the community which resulted in him being constantly targeted and attacked in the past.

 “….I come from wuk last night (Monday). Me son come home and seh ‘mommy, the people them wah me and them had the story…some girls and so they start pelt him with bottles in his back”, Emmette said.

Emmette explained that she along with George and his siblings ventured out onto the road, when he was reportedly attacked.

“…..They pelt him with a brick, it buss way he face, he nose,” Emmette said.

She related that his attacker/s escaped and she encouraged her son to report the matter to the police.

Emmette further explained that she left for home to prepare dinner. However, as time elapsed, George did not return home.

Yesterday morning, Emmette said while her husband was making his way to work he informed her of the discovery and summoned her to the scene.

“He turn and seh man ‘wah clothes Wayne left home with?’ Ah seh green camouflage pants. He had on no shirt. He seh wah bicycle. I seh red bicycle. He seh come now,” Emmette related.

She said upon arrival at the scene, she saw her son’s lifeless body.

 “When we do go, me son lay down in the trench dead,” Emmette cried.

 ‘He neck deh back way down at the back, he get a mark in he head like they lash he with the cutlass.  The cutlass next to he. You know when you guh fah scramble fah hold fah knock somebody back. Is suh he had left and mark in he back,” she added.

The woman is calling on the police to thoroughly investigate the matter so that her son’s killer/s can be apprehended and charged.
