The University of Guyana (UG) and Everest yesterday recorded outright wins at the conclusion of the weekend’s Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), Noble House Seafoods second-division two-day matches.

After surrendering first innings points, UG defeated Bel Air Rubis by 44 runs at the Queen’s College ground while Everest got past Diplomats by 52 runs.

Resuming the final day on 14-1 and trailing by 56 runs, UG was dismissed for 263 in 44.1 overs at the stroke of lunch on the second day.

Left-arm spinner Javed Rasheed bagged 12-48 to guide Everest past Diplomats.

They amassed a 193-run lead as Yogendra Singh was once again the cornerstone of the innings, blasting 87 in a knock which included seven sixes and five fours.

The left-hander got support from opener Ackeem Methland (20), night-watchman Yekini Favorite (20) and all-rounder Damion Vantull who smacked 62 in what was a much-improved batting performance by the students.

Floyd Jones ended as the pick of the bowlers with 3-28 while first innings wiz Arvin Gainda grabbed 3-53 to end the match with 9-79.

Bel Air in pursuit was dismissed for 149 in 43.1 overs with Krishna Deosarran (23), Jones (20), and Gainda (20) all failing to carry on after starts.

Vantull led UG’s bowling effort by grabbing 4-24 and got support from Ershaad Alli (3-44) and Kamta Persaud (2-36).

Meanwhile, over at Everest, the host rallied to a 52 run win over Diplomats on the back of a stellar bowling effort from left-arm spinner Javed Rasheed who ended the match with 12 – 48.

The day’s proceedings saw Everest resuming the day on 7-1, batting a second time after accruing a first-innings lead of 88 runs overnight.

They were eventually dismissed for 120, taking their lead to 201. Wicket-keeper/batsman Ushardev Balgobin (42) top-scored and missed out on a second half-century of the match as skipper Nigel Simpson (5-50) led his side’s bowling effort.

Diplomats in response were limited to 149 before being dismissed with Simpson returning to register 57 with the bat as Rasheed (4-36), Richie Looknauth (3-30) and David Williams (2-36) secured Everest’s win.
