Jaguars still second at half way stage

Guyana Jaguars maintained their second spot on the West Indies Championship table but slipped further behind on points after round five of the 10-round tournament.

The five-time defending champions, Guyana drew their match in Grenada against Windward Islands Volcanoes to end on 60.8 points. Volcanoes slipped to fourth with 50.7 points. Barbados Pride on the other hand extended their lead on the table after closing the round on 84.2 points following their victory over Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, who hold the penultimate spot with 46.6 points.

Jamaica Scorpions’ win over Leeward Islands Hurricanes saw them moving into third with 57.4 points and condemning Hurricanes to the bottom of the table with 32.6 points.

Devon Smith’s unbeaten 147 against Jaguars catapulted him to the top of the run chart with 458 while Scorpion’s Jermaine Blackwood trails with 385 runs. Pride’s Kyle Meyers sits in third with 377 runs while Jaguars’ Christopher Barnwell moved to 372 runs following his ton in the last round.

Jaguars’ left-arm spinner, Veerasammy Permaul opened the gap in the wickets column as he moved on to 30 wickets with Chemar Holder and Akeal Hosein trailing on 24 wickets each.

Pride’s Keon Harding has 23 wickets while Jaguars’ Nial Smith has 19.

Round six, which begins on February 27 will sees Barbados Pride hosting The Windward Islands Volcanoes, the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force travelling to St. Kitts and Nevis to battle the Leeward Islands Hurricanes and the Jamaica Scorpions hosting the Guyana  Jaguars.
