Days after being caught, the man accused of fatally beating gold miner Roland Kanhai during a robbery was yesterday arraigned on a murder charge.

Oniel Jeffrey Bradley, 26, of Second Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara, was read the charge by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

It was alleged that on February 29, 2020, at 111 Miles Mahdia, Bradley attacked Kanhai, causing death as a result of the injury.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Kanhai was drinking at a bar when Bradley confronted him, requesting cash. Kanhai, however, denied Bradley’s request for money and as a result he was dealt a blow, causing him to fall to the ground.

Bradley then went into Kanhai’s pockets, took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene.

Kanhai was discovered in an unconscious state and rushed to the Mahdia Hospital, from where he was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he met his demise on March 3, 2020.

A post-mortem examination revealed that he died of a fractured skull.

The matter was adjourned until March 23, 2020, after the police prosecutor told the court that the investigation was incomplete.
