GBTI waives ATM, point of sale fees as part of coronavirus response

The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) has announced a waiver of fees for the use of its Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and Point of Sale service for the remainder of the month to assist customers in taking precautions against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“We are concerned about the safety and protection of you our valued customers as well as the safety and protection of our staff,” the bank said in a statement on Friday when it announced the decision.

It said it has taken a number of steps to protect persons visiting the various branches and its staff, with the aim of preventing and or reducing transmission of the disease. These measures include the provision of hand sanitizers and wipes.

“As an added measure, the Bank has taken the decision to waive all fees related to the use of your local debit cards at our ATMs and Point of Sales for the rest of this month,” it said.

“We encourage our online customers to utilize the platform for basic transfers, bill payments and balance checks during this time,” it added, while noting that its staff remained ready to assist customers, while providing the option to use the ATM and Point of Sale services whenever possible.

The bank assured that it will continue to monitor and review the situation over the next few weeks and advise of any changes.

“We encourage you to adhere to all health and safety measures outlined by the Ministry of Health and PAHO/WHO to help safeguard all of us: our families and workplaces,” it added.
