Taxi driver for trial on one of three rape charges

A taxi driver facing six charges at the Magistrates’ Court, was yesterday committed to stand trial at the High Court for one of three rape charges.

Linden Daniels was committed to stand trial during his appearance in the courtroom of Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, yesterday. This was following the inquiry for a rape charge against him, which alleges that on January 30th, 2019, at Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke/ Linden Highway, Daniels engaged in the sexual penetration of a woman without her consent.

This is only one of the three rape charges he faces at the City Court. It is also alleged that on February 13th, 2019 and February 18th, 2019, at New Providence, EBD, the accused engaged in sexual penetration of two different females.

Another charge states that on the same date as the first charge, he robbed the very woman of a Samsung J2 Prime cellphone, valued at $33,000.

The third charge alleges that on February 11th, 2019, at New Providence, East Bank Demerara, he sexually assaulted another female by pulling down her underwear.

Daniels is also accused of stealing from the person in the aforementioned charge, a Samsung Grand Prime Plus cellphone valued at $45,000, US$60 and $1,000 in local currency.

In relation to the rape charges, it is alleged that Daniels picked up the women in his taxi and then raped or sexually assaulted the individuals before robbing them.

Daniels was remanded to prison on the charges during his first appearance.
