It is apparent that the outbreak of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) is continuing to serve up a number of global challenges in the world’s financial and healthcare economy.

Though parts of Asia and Europe are more severely hit, the spread of the virus has recently been more talked about in the Caribbean and South America and is affecting the enthusiasm of volleyball administrators in Guyana, Suriname

and French Guiana who are keen to see the sport move forward.

Levi Nedd

President of the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) Levi Nedd, recently revealed to Stabroek Sports that officials from the three countries were scheduled to meet during the last week of March to mop out a development plan. However, with both Guyana and Suriname closing their borders as a preventative method, the assembly is now in limbo.

“As part of the block development in the three Guianas that has been revived recently… we are planning to meet in March (27-29) but I don’t know if the coronavirus will stop anything,” Nedd told Stabroek Sports.

Officials from these countries were aiming to set in stone some development initiatives targeting under – 16, 21, 23 and senior players.

Nedd also informed that the local volleyball body had to put on hold a senior volleyball inter-club tournament, which would have been used to identify teams to contest an Inter Guianas club tournament in May. (Royston Alkins)
