Labourer charged with murder of man at Lethem

A 20-year-old labourer who is accused of fatally beating 48-year-old Leron Ault during an argument less than a week ago was charged with murder yesterday and remanded to prison.

Fabian Abraham of Kanuku Drive, Lethem appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

The matter was adjourned to April 23rd.

The incident occurred around 4pm last Wednesday.

Abraham was arrested on Thursday morning after which he reportedly confessed to the crime.

Stabroek News had previously reported that Ault also known as ‘Junior’, a farmer of Moco Moco, Central Rupununi died on arrival at the Lethem Hospital after he was beaten about his body including his head.

Regional Commander Superintendent Keithon King had told this newspaper that Ault went to Lot 21 Kanuku Drive, Lethem to meet a woman who reportedly owes him a sum of cash. He went to enquire about payment.

Whilst there, the woman reportedly indicated to Ault that she did not have any money due to the present situation in the country.

As a result, he left and went to her backyard, where some persons including Abraham were imbibing alcohol.

King had said an argument subsequently ensued between Ault and the suspect during which the youth allegedly armed himself with a piece of wood and inflicted the deadly blows.
