Annual Mayor’s Cup football tournament to start August

The annual Mayor’s Cup/Inter-Ward/Village football tournament has been rescheduled

Coordinator, former national football coach Lennox Arthur has said.

The  tournament,  held in honor of His Worship the Mayor of the City of Georgetown Ubraj Narine, is expected to be contested in August, favourabel circumstances permitting.

Narine will be celebrating his 29th birthday anniversary on October 12, 2020.


Some 32 teams drawn from five Regional Member Associations (RMA’s) are expected to compete in the tournament.

The teams which will participate in the 11 – a-side format are:-Bourda Blues, Charlestown, Tucville, Road Warriors, North Sophia, South Sophia (Georgetown).

Mahaicony, Airy Hall, Calcutta, Paradise Invaders and New Amsterdam (Berbice).

Ann’s Grove, Golden Grove, Victoria, Victoria Scorpions, Buxton Stars, Beterverwagting, Melanie, Mahaica, Plaisance and Lima Dam (East Coast).

Timehri, Kuru Kururu West Demerara; Uitvulgt, Pouderoyen, Stewartville, Den Amstel, Den Amstel Kings, West Side Spartans, Crane, Wales and Hurry Ate (East Bank Demerara).

The proposed venues are the Georgetown Football Club Ground, Bourda, Mahaicony Community Centre, Victoria Community Centre and the Den Amstel Community Centre grounds.

The tournament is expected to be a straight knockout format.
