As entrepreneurs seek to adapt to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, the youth in business are no different.

The latest sole proprietor business to follow suit in providing customers with durable, effective and in-style protective gear is Wongie Apparel, which was founded and currently owned by 19-year-old Mark Wong.

Wong, who has been in the business of fashion design for a little under a year, has set out to create and design masks in an effort to provide people with protective wear that would be necessary in the prevention of the spread of COVID-19. “My regular customers have been asking for us to do masks, so we noticed a high demand in them. We also believe that it is a necessity because of the situation we’re in, so we try to do as much as we can to help,” Wong told Stabroek Weekend in an interview.

The masks are made with two layers of 100% cotton.

Wong also explained how important it is for businesses to play whatever role they can in order to assist in such a trying time.  “We believe that it is extremely important for us to step up [because] right now there is no vaccine or no cure, so the best way to fight is via protection,” he opined.

Wong indicated his desire to donate a portion of the profit made towards helping those who are less fortunate and won’t have the finances to adequately protect themselves. He noted that he is in the process of finalising partnerships with businesses and other entities to continue to fight against the spread of COVID-19.
