Denis Jaikarran, the Regional Executive Officer (REO) of Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), was yesterday released on self-bail after he was charged with assaulting Regional Vice-Chairperson Nandranie Coonjah in September last year.

Jaikarran was arraigned before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning.

He denied the charge, which stated that he assaulted Coonjah on September 10th, 2019.

Jaikarran was subsequently released on self-bail and ordered to return to court on July 8th.

The alleged attack occurred following a disturbance at the monthly statutory meeting which was held in the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) boardroom.

During the process, Coonjah had alleged that she was struck on her shoulder by Jaikarran.

A report was made to the Anna Regina Police Station after which an investigation was immediately launched.

During the probe, both Jaikarran and Coonjah were questioned.

Jaikarran was charged based on legal advice obtained by the police.
