The Education Ministry has announced that Grade Six students will sit their delayed examinations on July 1st and July 2nd.

The Ministry of Education yesterday announced that the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examinations will be held on July 1st and July 2nd and the heath guidelines are expected to be released today.

The examinations were originally due to be held on April 8th and April 9th but were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a press release, the ministry yesterday announced the new dates. The release came a day after the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) released the official timetable for its regional exams in July.

On Monday, the CXC published its time table, which shows the exam dates for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE), which will be conducted from July 13th, 2020 to August 4th, 2020, and July 13th to July 31st, 2020, respectively.

The ministry further noted that each of the examinations will be written using the paper-based option, which answers one of the many questions being asked following CXC’s first announcement of both online and paper-based testing approaches.

The press release also noted that the official Examination Order, which would address public health guidelines for the exams, will be published today, June 3rd.

Following the issuance of the press release yesterday, Stabroek News contacted Education Ministry Public Relations Officer Murtland Haley and was told that information regarding the reopening of schools prior to the exams has not been released as yet.
