Citizens, Scotiabank to discontinue paper statements

Citizens Bank and Scotiabank say they are discontinuing paper statements.

In an advertisement in the June 20 edition of Stabroek News, Citizens said that effective from July 1st its statement production is going paperless. It said that monthly statements from December 2019 can be viewed or downloaded from the bank’s portal at www.citizensbankgy.com.

The bank encouraged customers to sign on, noting that it is free and convenient and allows the printing of statements, paying of utility bills, initiating of wire transfers, the checking of account balances and the transfer of money between accounts.

The advertisement noted that statements for May and June will be received via post. Persons with questions can call 226-1705. In the same edition, Scotiabank in a separate advertisement said that by the end of June account statements will be only available using Scotia Online Banking. It urged that customers switch to e-statements by visiting gy.scotiabank.com.   It noted that this switch reduces the risk of identity theft associated with snail mail and also helps the environment.
