The body of a Corentyne man was retrieved yesterday morning from a creek in Region Seven in which he disappeared while swimming with friends.

Dead is Roger Alert, 22, of Brighton Village, Corentyne, Berbice.

His aunt, Donette Sandy, 63, of Brighton Village, Corentyne, yesterday told Stabroek News that Alert’s father is a gold miner who works in the Cuyuni-Mazaruni region.

She said that about two weeks ago, Alert and his father, who resides in Kuru Kuru, headed into the area to work. “The father say he had to come out back to do some business so he leave Roger inside there to look after his concerns”, the aunt noted.

She continued, “Apparently Roger and some other boys left home to go shop and then they start swim in a creek and he disappear”.

Yesterday morning Alert’s father returned to the area and subsequently informed relatives that his son’s body was retrieved sometime before 10 am.

According to the aunt, she was told that there were no visible marks of violence.

Sandy said that Alert, a father of a one year old, was respectable and hardworking.
