Gold trader accused of child abuse nabbed

A Leonora, West Coast Demerara resident, who was wanted by the police for the alleged sexual abuse of a child, was yesterday arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The suspect, a gold trader, is presently in police custody pending charges.

Sunday Stabroek was reliably informed that around 12.00hrs yesterday, the police went to Apaiqua Landing, Upper Mazaruni River, where they located the suspect. A a search was conducted on him and a pistol with four live rounds, a 9mm magazine and two 12-gauge cartridges were found.

The suspect was immediately arrested.

Prior to his arrest, the suspect has been eluding the police on the charge of sexually abusing a child.
