Cops probing death of Baramita child

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) announced last evening that they are investigating the  death of 3-year- old, Keyon Joseph Antonio.

Antonio, who was living with his parents, Suzie Antonio and Keith Fredricks and siblings, at Lot 1 Barama Line, Baramita, North West District is alleged to have died by drowning yesterday.

According to the Police, enquiries revealed that Keyon and another sibling, Samuel, followed their older brother when he left the home at around 4 pm to collect a cellular phone from the family’s shop.

The mother of the deceased told police that she was sitting under a mango tree with her 1 year old when she heard Samuel scream.

She immediately got up and found Samuel pointing into a pond some 30 meters from the family home.

The child was crying and saying, “mama Keykey”. The mother said she ran over to the shop to called the older brother who immediately left, jumped into the pond and pulled out Keyon in a motionless state.

The Police at Baramita Police Station were contacted.  He was picked up and taken to the Baramita Health Centre where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty at about 16:27 hours.

The body was examined by the Police but no marks of violence were observed. A post mortem is to be done.
