Two women die of COVID

Two more women have been added to the list of Guyana’s COVID-19 fatalities.

The two new deaths were announced yesterday afternoon by the Ministry of Health (MoH) in a press release, which stated that the victims were an 82-year-old woman from Region Four and a 47-year-old woman from Region One.

According to the MoH, the two died while receiving care at medical facilities and samples were taken upon admission to the facilities – they returned positive for COVID-19. The two deaths increased the total number in the country to 46.

Further, the COVID-19 dashboard from the ministry showed that 15 new cases were recorded yesterday which increased the total number of cases to 1,416. Thirteen of the new cases were recorded in Region Four while Regions One and Three recorded one case each. The total number of persons tested for the virus in the country now stands at 9,128 which indicates that 88 more persons were tested during the last round of testing.

Currently, there are 55 persons in institutional isolation, and 459 persons in approved home isolation, and they account for the number of active cases in the country. Ninety-two  persons are currently in institutional quarantine and 14 persons remain in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.
