COVID-19 death toll climbs to 76

Two more deaths and 16 additional novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases have been confirmed by the Ministry of Health.

A statement issued by the Health Ministry yesterday disclosed that the 75th and 76th COVID-19 fatalities are a 36-year-old from man from Region Six, and a 45-year-old man from Region Four, respectively. The Ministry said that samples were taken from the deceased at the time of admission and they subsequently tested positive for COVID-19.

The Ministry has expressed condolences to the families and stated that it will make every effort to provide all necessary support to the family.

Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases recorded by Guyana has increased to 2,725 as a result of the 16 additional cases that were confirmed from the results of 203 samples that were tested. The additional positive test results are from Region Four and Region Nine, which recorded 11 and 5 COVID-19 more cases, respectively.

According to the daily COVID-19 dashboard released yesterday, there are currently 12 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 232 persons in institutional isolation, 872 in home isolation and 82 persons in institutional quarantine.

Approximately 1,535 persons who were infected with the disease have recovered while the number of persons who were infected with COVID-19 and died has increased to 76.
